Holy Name Monastery provides
accommodations for Women and Men who wish
to make private or directed retreats. Retreatants are invited to share
prayers and meals with the Sisters. The chapel is always open.
Private Retreat:
In a private retreat supported
by and sharing in the prayer life of the Benedictine Sisters of Florida,
a person creates a schedule of reflection, reading, prayer, journaling,
walking, rest... or whatever will be spiritually refreshing and
reviving. Eucharist, Liturgy of the Hours, community and nature all help
feed the hungers for solitude and being loved by God.
A directed retreat is a special
opportunity to focus on listening to the voice of God alone over an
extended period of time, usually a weekend to eight days. The retreatant
shares in the prayer of the monastic community and meets daily with a
spiritual director who will suggest Scripture passages for prayerful
reflection. This will aid the retreatant’s listening and responding to
God’s call to growth and holiness. The depths of silence and the beauty
of nature enhance the quality of listening.
Directed retreats
should be scheduled at least six weeks in advance with the Sister who
will direct the retreat. Scheduling for directed retreats may be done by
phone, letter or email
when reservations are made.
Group Retreats:
We welcome groups or
organizations, men and women (20-25 persons), who want to arrange special retreats,
workshops, or days of reflection. Particular attention is given to
senior citizens, church organizations, and school faculties. Groups with
preplanned programs are also welcome to use the facilities. Please call
or email
for information.

Sabbatical Experiences:
The monastic community welcomes
Sisters, Benedictine or others, who wish to spend time at the monastery
for leisure, prayer and relaxation. Sisters
who wish to come for some ‘time-out" can pursue their
own program of interest while living with the monastic community.
Sister guests are invited to join the community for special events or cultural
experiences scheduled during their stay.
Housing for
retreatants is in the monastery building. Our guest rooms on the
third floor can accommodate 20-25 people. Single or double rooms are
available (linens furnished). There is elevator access within the
building and each room is air-conditioned. Most dietary needs can be met
if advanced notice is given. There is a small convenience store within
walking distance.
